SB13-274 Summary

• Aligns salaries of Colorado's executive branch elected officials (governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, and state treasurer) with judicial branch compensation, effective January 2015 for the attorney general and January 2019 for other officials.

• Adjusts executive branch salaries on a quadrennial basis so that each official's salary matches the judicial officer's salary on the first day of their four-year term (governor matches chief justice of supreme court; lieutenant governor, secretary of state, and state treasurer match Class B county court judges; attorney general matches chief judge of court of appeals).

• Prohibits salary modifications during an official's current term and allows officials filling vacancies to receive the predecessor's salary.

• Revives the lapsed Colorado state officials' compensation commission, restricts appointees from being current elected officials or state employees, requires bipartisan membership, and designates the governor's appointee as chairperson.

• Directs the commission to report in odd-numbered years (beginning 2015) with specific recommendations on salaries for state legislators, board of regents, state board of education, and district attorneys.
