Counties with more than 100,000 inhabitants may hold fewer than two meetings per week annually, except in July and August when the requirement remains limited to two meetings per month.

County commissioner boards may reduce meeting frequency based on circumstances including illness causing lack of quorum, scheduling conflicts with professional organizations, inclement weather, natural disasters, emergency conditions, special events, or any other reason deemed reasonable by a board majority.

The board chair may cancel regularly scheduled meetings, and must provide public notice of cancellations made more than 24 hours in advance using the same method customarily used for meeting announcements.

The act takes effect September 1, 2014, unless a referendum petition is filed within 90 days after final adjournment of the general assembly, in which case it requires approval by voters at the November 2014 general election.
