HB 14-1198 Summary

• Extends professional licensing reciprocity for active-duty military members, military spouses, and military dependents from 1 year to 3 years of Colorado residence without obtaining Colorado credentials if licensed in another state

• Adds two new definitions: "active-duty service member" (person actively serving in U.S. Armed Forces stationed in Colorado) and "military dependent" (child under 22 years old born to or legally adopted by an active-duty service member)

• Removes exceptions that previously excluded engineers, architects, surveyors, doctors, optometrists, fireworks workers, and real estate workers from reciprocity provisions, making the policy applicable to all regulated professions in Colorado

• Takes effect August 6, 2014, subject to approval by Colorado voters at the November 2014 general election if a referendum petition is filed within 90 days
