CO HB1208

Adds a new definition of "multi-district administrative unit" to Colorado law, defined as a group of two or more school districts that were parties to a joint agreement existing on January 1, 2011, to provide special education services without formally creating a board of cooperative services.

Authorizes the Department of Education to recognize these existing multi-district administrative units as valid administrative units for purposes of the Exceptional Children's Educational Act.

Requires every school district in Colorado to be either an individual administrative unit, part of a board of cooperative services, or participate in a multi-district administrative unit.

Prohibits the Department of Education from recognizing or authorizing any group of school districts as an administrative unit unless it qualifies as either a multi-district administrative unit or a board of cooperative services.

Includes a safety clause declaring the act necessary for immediate preservation of public peace, health, and safety; signed by Governor John W. Hickenlooper.
