HB 14-1221 Summary

• Extends the termination date of the fire suppression contractor regulation program from July 1, 2014 to September 1, 2019, continuing the Division of Fire Prevention and Control's regulatory authority.

• Creates new definitions for "residential fire suppression contractor" and "residential fire suppression system" to distinguish regulation of contractors serving one- or two-family dwellings and townhouses from those serving commercial properties.

• Requires the administrator to adopt separate design and installation standards and a separate registration category specifically for residential fire suppression systems by January 1, 2015.

• Allows certified local fire suppression inspectors to review and approve working plans and hydraulic calculations for fire suppression systems, in addition to the administrator's review authority.

• Requires administrators and local inspectors to maintain searchable records of working plans and hydraulic calculations for projects with significant or repeated design or installation deficiencies, linked to the responsible contractor and professional engineer or technician.
