HB 14-1385 Summary

• State Board shall annually present trophies for Academic Growth Awards to public high schools demonstrating the highest student academic growth within each athletic classification, measured by the Colorado Growth Model.

• Awards are named and classified according to the groupings established biennially by the statewide association for high school activities for football.

• Department of Education shall allocate up to $1,500 annually from public or private gifts, grants, or donations received to fund the trophies, starting in fiscal year 2014-15.

• State Board and Technical Advisory Panel shall establish rules defining the method to identify schools with the highest rate of student longitudinal growth in one or more school years.

• Act takes effect August 6, 2014, subject to referendum petition requirements; implementation occurs within existing appropriations with no additional state funding required.
