SB 14-021 Summary

• Extends the legislative oversight committee and task force for examining treatment of persons with mental illness in criminal and juvenile justice systems, changing the repeal date from July 1, 2015 to July 1, 2020.

• Increases task force membership from 30 to 32 members by adding representatives from the Office of the Child's Representative and the Office of the Alternate Defense Counsel.

• Adds new issues for task force study on or after July 1, 2014, including housing, medication consistency, suicide prevention, co-occurring disorders, staff safety training, and enhanced data collection.

• Allows reimbursement of actual and necessary expenses for task force members and legislative committee members, in addition to per diem payments authorized under existing law.

• Appropriates $3,366 to the legislative department and $3,746 to the department of human services for fiscal year 2014-2015 to support committee and task force operations, effective July 1, 2014.
