SB14-081 Summary

• School districts may elect to use either state inspectors or local electrical and plumbing inspectors for school building inspections, removing the previous requirement that state inspectors perform these inspections.

• School districts must notify the state board on or before October 1 of the preceding year whether they will use state or local inspectors for the subsequent fiscal year.

• School districts must use the same type of inspector (state or local) for all schools in the district, unless a specific school is located in a jurisdiction without a local inspection authority, in which case state inspectors perform that inspection.

• Local jurisdictions that cease plumbing inspections must provide advance written notice to the state board by October 1 and reimburse the state for any plumbing inspections the state must perform if notice is not given.

• Both state and local electrical and plumbing inspectors must inspect school buildings according to state electrical and plumbing code standards.
