SB14-088 Summary

• Creates the Suicide Prevention Commission to provide leadership for suicide prevention and intervention in Colorado, establish statewide evidence-based priorities, and advise the Office of Suicide Prevention.

• Commission comprises no more than 26 members appointed by the Executive Director of the Department of Public Health and Environment within 60 days, including representatives from law enforcement, education, healthcare, business, military, suicide prevention organizations, and individuals with lived experience of suicide.

• Department of Public Health and Environment provides administrative support to the Commission; the Office of Suicide Prevention must include Commission recommendations in its annual report to the General Assembly.

• Authorizes the Department to accept gifts, grants, and donations for Commission implementation costs, credited to the Suicide Prevention Coordination Cash Fund.

• Commission automatically repeals September 1, 2024, subject to sunset review by the Department of Regulatory Agencies; appropriates $73,972 and 0.9 FTE for fiscal year 2014-2015.
