Senate Bill 14-123 Summary

• Expands the Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) board's rule-making authority for certifying vehicle identification inspectors, annual in-service training requirements, and general board governance.

• Raises the maximum fee for certification and skills examinations from $125 to $150 per examination per applicant.

• Authorizes the P.O.S.T. board to award grants to nonprofit organizations in addition to local governments and colleges/universities for funding training programs.

• Denies peace officer certification to individuals convicted of misdemeanors under equivalent federal, state, or local municipal ordinances related to specified offenses.

• Increases the vehicle registration fee from 60 cents to $1.00 per item to fund the P.O.S.T. board cash fund and appropriates $1,612,467 and 1.4 FTE for expanded training activities effective August 6, 2014.
