Senate Bill 14-135 Summary

• Repeals Article 27 of Title 12 of the Colorado Revised Statutes, which previously permitted licensed firearms dealers in Colorado to sell rifles and shotguns to residents of contiguous states and allowed Colorado residents to purchase rifles and shotguns in contiguous states.

• Establishes that nothing in the act limits application of federal law in Colorado and requires all firearms transactions in Colorado to fully comply with federal law requirements.

• Takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on August 6, 2014 (ninety days after the general assembly's adjournment), unless a referendum petition is filed, in which case it becomes effective only if approved by voters in the November 2014 general election.
