State Capitol building, designed by architect Elijah Myers and completed in 1894, had its dome gilded with Colorado gold in 1908 as a symbol of the state's prosperity and mining heritage.

Dome deteriorated due to freeze-thaw cycles and corrosion, requiring closure of the observation deck and installation of temporary netting in 2006.

Long-term restoration plan commenced in 2011 to repair the cast iron dome structure, replace copper, apply new gold gilding, and restore windows and interior balcony areas.

Dome restoration was funded by the state historical fund, donations from Colorado businesses and citizens through the "Share in the Care Colorado" campaign, and the general fund; gold leaf was donated by AngloGold Ashanti/Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company and prepared in Florence, Italy.

Resolution recognizes and celebrates the completion of the dome restoration project, which began unveiling in early 2014 and was completed on-time and under-budget despite its large scope.
