Licensed psychologists in Colorado must complete at least 40 hours of continuing professional development every two years to maintain their license.

Approved activities include attending workshops and seminars, completing ethics courses, teaching academic courses, authoring or editing psychology publications, and completing graduate courses, with different activities earning varying credit hour equivalents.

At least 35 of the required 40 hours must be continuing education units or medical education credits approved by the American Psychological Association, state medical associations, or accredited institutions.

Licensed psychologists do not need preapproval from the board before completing professional development activities, but must maintain documentation of all hours completed.

The board may audit up to 5 percent of licensed psychologists each two-year cycle for compliance, and continuing professional development records are confidential and not subject to public inspection or civil discovery.
