Youth sports organizations must require criminal history record checks for all employees and volunteers working directly with youth 5 or more days per calendar month, and for anyone accompanying the organization on overnight trips.

Background checks must be conducted by a private consumer reporting agency and must disclose sexual offenders and felony convictions, include a social security number trace, and search the Colorado judicial public access system.

Organizations cannot hire employees or approve volunteers who have been convicted of felony child abuse, felony offenses involving unlawful sexual behavior, or comparable offenses committed in other states.

Background checks must be completed prior to starting work or taking trips, and repeated every two years thereafter.

Exemptions apply to volunteer parents without head coach or manager roles who have immediate family members in the organization, and those not required to obtain checks must be supervised by checked personnel at all times.
