Senate Bill 15-171 Summary

• Extends the sunset date for regulation of private occupational schools and their agents from September 1, 2015 to September 1, 2024, implementing recommendations from the 2014 Department of Regulatory Agencies sunset review.

• Authorizes the Private Occupational School Board to issue cease-and-desist orders prior to seeking court-ordered injunctive relief for violations.

• Repeals section 12-59-105.5 regarding occupational credentials for barbering and cosmetology instructors.

• Updates language throughout Article 59 of Title 12, C.R.S. to replace "department of personnel" with "division" and modernize gender-specific pronouns to gender-neutral language.

• Takes effect August 5, 2015, subject to referendum petition provisions requiring voter approval at the November 2016 general election if challenged.
