SB 15-220 Summary

• Colorado State Patrol shall provide protection for General Assembly members when present in state capitol buildings and respond to all criminal activity or security threat complaints against members.

• Colorado State Patrol shall provide law enforcement services for buildings, grounds, and facilities designated by the General Assembly, coordinating with local law enforcement and house security officers as appropriate.

• State Patrol may provide additional protection and security services upon request by the Senate President, Senate Minority Leader, House Speaker, or House Minority Leader.

• State Patrol may provide protection and security services for any function held in Colorado where a General Assembly member attends in official capacity, considering factors including location, threat level, and staffing requirements.

• Bill was declared necessary for immediate preservation of public peace, health, and safety and was approved by Governor John W. Hickenlooper.
