• Establishes February as Fibroid Awareness Month in Colorado to educate the public on informed choices about fibroid management and treatment options.

• Fibroids are the most common tumor of the female pelvis, affecting approximately 80% of African American women and 70% of Caucasian, Hispanic, and Asian women during their lifetime.

• Uterine fibroids cost American society $34 billion annually, but minimally invasive therapies can reduce costs by 36% and result in up to $12 billion in annual savings.

• Some new minimally invasive fibroid procedures allow patients to return to work in as little as two days, compared to open abdominal surgery which causes the most lost work time.

• Copies of the resolution shall be sent to the Governor, Colorado Medical Board, and CEOs of Porter Hospital, Swedish Medical Center, and Sky Ridge Medical Center.
