SJR 15-026 Summary

• Recognizes and supports the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation for providing educational opportunities to children of U.S. Marines and Navy Corpsmen who served with Marines.

• Notes the foundation was established in 1962 and has provided over 33,000 scholarships valued at more than $90 million, including 50 scholarships to Colorado students in 2014-2015.

• Acknowledges that many military families lack means to afford higher education and that the foundation offers need-based scholarships for any qualified postsecondary training, including trade schools and academies.

• Provides special consideration to children of veterans severely wounded or killed since September 11, 2001.

• Encourages all Colorado citizens to support the foundation and its sponsors in helping students achieve their potential and serve their state and nation.
