Veterans with military special license plates may exchange them for standard number plates without paying additional taxes and fees for the current registration period, except for the section 42-3-301 fee.

Active and retired members of the Colorado National Guard with special license plates may also exchange them for standard number plates under the same conditions as veterans.

$560 is appropriated to the department of revenue for the 2016-17 fiscal year from the license plate cash fund to cover license plate ordering costs.

The act takes effect 90 days after final adjournment of the general assembly (August 10, 2016, if adjournment occurs on May 11, 2016) unless subject to a successful referendum petition.

The provisions apply to license plate applications made on or after January 1, 2017.
