Licensed psychologists must complete at least 40 hours of continuing professional development every two years, with activities chosen from an approved list including workshops, seminars, academic courses, and publications.

Up to five hours of continuing professional development may come from attendance at nonaccredited programming, with the remaining 35+ hours required to be from accredited sources approved by the American Psychological Association, state medical association, or regionally accredited institutions.

Credit for developing and teaching academic courses is limited to the first time within a given licensure cycle and is based on institutional credit hours (one academic credit equals ten continuing professional development hours).

Developing and presenting a workshop, seminar, or invited speaking session for the first time within a licensure cycle counts as three continuing professional development hours per hour of presentation.

A new category allows psychologists to earn one continuing professional development hour for providing editorial review of a professional psychology or scientific journal article at the request of the journal's editorial staff.
