Department of Corrections shall reimburse counties for reasonable and necessary costs incurred by county coroners for investigations and autopsies on deceased persons in DOC custody.

Reimbursable costs include transportation, refrigeration, and body bags related to coroner investigations and autopsies.

Counties must certify costs to the Department of Corrections, and the Executive Director or designee must approve reimbursement before payment.

$32,175 appropriated to the Department of Corrections for the 2016-17 fiscal year from the general fund to implement coroner reimbursements.

Effective date is July 1, 2016.
