Former Colorado House Representative William "Bill" Michael Berens died on September 7, 2015, and the House memorializes his service and accomplishments.

Berens was born December 9, 1948, in Montrose, Colorado, served as an Army infantryman and drill sergeant, and earned degrees in Civil Engineering from CU-Boulder and an MBA from the University of Northern Colorado.

Served as Broomfield Mayor for 4 terms from 1994 to 2001, during which a constitutional amendment created the City and County of Broomfield, a new water system replaced Rocky Flats infrastructure, and resident property taxes were cut by 20%.

Elected to the Colorado House of Representatives in 2004 and served until 2006, serving on committees including Health and Human Services, Local Government, Transportation and Energy, and Capital Development.

The House extends sympathy to his family and directs copies of the memorial be sent to his wife Tami Berens, his sons Bill and Andy Berens, and other state officials and local leaders.
