Federal regulatory agencies must provide at least 24 hours' notice to county sheriffs and local law enforcement before conducting specialized unit operations in Colorado.

Notice requirements apply to operations in incorporated areas and must include a copy of the court order authorizing the specialized unit operation.

Federal agencies are prohibited from conducting specialized unit operations without first providing the required notice.

Exempted federal agencies include the Department of Defense, Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, U.S. Capitol Police, Bureau of Diplomatic Security, and military departments.

"Specialized unit" is defined as units with special tactical or military-style training using hard-plated body armor, shields, or helmets that respond to high-risk situations, including SWAT teams, tactical response teams, and active shooter teams.
