SB16-054 Summary

• Repeals the prohibition in Colorado law that prevents local governments from enacting minimum wage laws for their jurisdictions.

• Removes Section 8-3-102(1)(g) which declared minimum wage matters a statewide concern and banned local jurisdiction-wide minimum wage ordinances (except for local government employees).

• Repeals Section 8-6-101 entirely and amends Section 8-6-108.5 to remove references to the now-repealed statewide concern declaration.

• Repeals Section 8-12-102(2) which similarly prohibited local governments from enacting minimum wage laws specific to youth employment.

• Takes effect 90 days after final adjournment of the 2016 legislative session (August 10, 2016) unless subject to referendum petition, in which case it requires voter approval in November 2016.
