Establishes a Peace Officer Authority Colorado Mounted Rangers Study Task Force to study and make recommendations regarding P.O.S.T. peace officer certification and authority for the Colorado Mounted Rangers.

Task force composition includes the Executive Director of the Department of Public Safety (chair), Attorney General, representative of police chiefs, county sheriff, Colorado State Patrol chief, Colorado Bureau of Investigation director, Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management director, and the Colonel of the Colorado Mounted Rangers.

Task force must convene its first meeting by June 1, 2016 and submit recommendations to the Judiciary Committees of the House and Senate by July 1, 2017, addressing appropriate certification levels, training, supervision, housing agency, and authority scope.

Task force shall evaluate whether Colorado Mounted Rangers should receive peace officer certification, the appropriate level of authority, the status of rangers when off-duty, and any other relevant matters.

The task force and this statute automatically expire and are repealed effective July 1, 2017.
