CO SB153

Amends Colorado Revised Statutes 13-6-206 to encourage judicial district nominating commissions to give preference to candidates who reside within the county where a county judge vacancy occurs.

Requires that preferred candidates for county judge nominations also have been admitted to practice law in Colorado.

Applies to all county judge vacancies except those in the City and County of Denver.

Takes effect 90 days after the general assembly adjourns (August 10, 2016, if adjournment occurs on May 11, 2016), unless subject to a referendum petition filed by voters.

If a referendum petition is filed, the act will not take effect unless approved by voters at the November 2016 general election.
