CO HB1011

Establishes a seven-year statute of limitations for filing complaints against mental health professionals for violations related to maintenance of client records for individuals eighteen years of age or older.

Requires mental health professionals to notify clients in writing no later than 180 days after treatment ends that client records may not be maintained beyond the seven-year complaint filing period.

Mandates that disciplinary boards must either take disciplinary action on complaints or dismiss them within two years after the complaint is filed.

Limits the seven-year filing deadline to record maintenance violations only; other violations of the licensing statute have no specific limitation period.

Effective July 1, 2017, and applies to all complaints filed with professional licensing boards on or after that date.
