House Bill 17-1017 Summary

• County surveyors must represent counties in boundary disputes between adjoining counties, section or quarter corner disputes, and locate lost, destroyed, or disputed corners and boundaries.

• County surveyors may provide additional services (construction surveys, monument remonumentation, and other surveying services) when authorized and financially compensated by agreement with the board of county commissioners.

• County commissioners may contract out surveying services to private professional surveyors or survey firms, or assign work to other county departments employing Colorado licensed surveyors.

• County surveyor vacancy appointments must be made within six months (changed from ninety days) after vacancy occurs, and appointees need not be county residents.

• County boundary surveys must comply with rules issued by the State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors, and survey plats and Colorado Land Survey Monument Records must be filed in each county.
