• Expands eligibility for organizations providing community and useful public service assignments in misdemeanor sentencing to include veterans' service organizations exempt under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(19).

• Permits three categories of organizations to offer public service jobs: charitable trusts under 501(c)(3), civic leagues under 501(c)(4) that also qualify as veterans' service organizations, and veterans' service organizations under 501(c)(19).

• Applies expanded eligibility requirements across three Colorado statutes governing misdemeanor sentencing (18-1.3-507), drug offender programs (18-18-432), and probation department useful public service programs (42-4-1301.4).

• Preserves the sole discretion of entities receiving community or useful public service to accept or reject service assignments from any organization.

• Declares the act necessary for immediate preservation of public peace, health, and safety.
