Changes Colorado Revised Statutes 25-48-109 to make death certificate signing optional rather than mandatory for attending physicians and hospice medical directors.

Allows (rather than requires) physicians and hospice medical directors to sign death certificates for qualified individuals who obtained and self-administered aid-in-dying medication.

Takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on the day following the 90-day period after final adjournment of the general assembly (August 9, 2017, if adjournment is May 10, 2017).

Subject to referendum petition; if challenged, the act will not take effect unless approved by voters at the November 2018 general election.
