• Acknowledges that meningococcal disease causes 800-1,500 cases annually in the United States with a 10-15% fatality rate even with treatment, and infants under one and young adults ages 16-23 are most commonly affected.

• Urges all public and private high schools, colleges, and universities in Colorado to provide information to students and parents about meningococcal disease serogroups, symptoms, risks, and treatment options.

• Requires schools to include notice of availability, benefits, risks, and limitations of all meningococcal vaccines recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), including information for higher-risk populations.

• Directs each public and private high school, college, and university to recommend that current and entering students receive meningococcal vaccines according to current ACIP guidelines.
