SB 17-011 Summary

• Creates a Technical Demonstration Forum under the Department of Labor and Employment to study and document how advanced technologies can improve transportation access for people with disabilities.

• Forum consists of 8 government members (executives from Labor, Health Care Policy and Financing, Public Utilities Commission, Information Technology, Human Services, Veterans Affairs, Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind, and Transportation) plus invited representatives from disability organizations, transportation companies, and technology developers.

• Forum must study transportation needs in Colorado, review conditions in El Paso and Teller counties, identify funding sources, explore technological and business solutions, and may conduct pilot projects to demonstrate efficacy of promising solutions.

• Forum must publish findings and recommendations on the Department website by December 31, 2017, and furnish copies to the Governor, General Assembly leadership, and relevant legislative committees.

• Article 86 automatically repeals on July 1, 2018, making this a temporary study initiative.
