Senate Bill 17-028 Summary

• State Department of Human Services and county departments shall collect information about military affiliation of individuals with custody or control of children in child abuse or neglect investigations.

• State and county departments shall provide notice and information to military installation command authorities when investigations involve armed forces members, spouses, or family members residing in the home.

• State and county departments may enter into memorandums of understanding with military installations to establish protocols for sharing investigation information and collaboration, with requirements that information be used only for intended purposes and confidentiality be preserved.

• Military base authorities designated in memorandums of understanding shall have access to child abuse and neglect records and reports involving military-affiliated individuals.

• Appropriated $12,960 each to the Department of Human Services and Office of the Governor for 2017-18 fiscal year for information technology services to implement the act.
