County clerks and recorders may preserve original plats in original format, electronic format, or both, rather than only in physical form.

Electronic plats must be scanned at a minimum resolution of 300 dots per inch.

"Electronic" is defined as technology with electrical, digital, magnetic, wireless, optical, electromagnetic, or similar capabilities.

County boards of commissioners may provide additional funding and space for storage of original mylar, paper, or polyester sheets of subdivision and land survey plats when an electronic filing system is established.

The act takes effect August 9, 2017, or later if subject to a successful referendum petition, with approval by voters in the November 2018 general election required if such petition is filed.
