SB17-147 Summary

• Department of Personnel must develop and annually distribute informational materials to state employees about federal student loan repayment programs and loan forgiveness programs (Public Service Loan Forgiveness and Teacher Loan Forgiveness programs).

• Materials must include program summaries, eligibility criteria, participation steps, frequently asked questions, and recommendations to contact student loan servicers; department may use existing federal materials if available.

• Department must distribute materials to Department of Education, Department of Higher Education, Secretary of State, and Division of Local Government for further distribution to school districts, charter schools, higher education institutions, nonprofits, and local governments.

• All entities receiving materials must annually distribute them to employees and include materials in new employee orientation processes; distribution may occur via email, mailing, or regular communication.

• Department must maintain materials on its website, verify accuracy at least annually, and distribute any updated materials to all recipient entities.
