Courts are prohibited from requiring medical marijuana patients with a valid registry identification card to abstain from marijuana use as a condition of bond.

The restriction applies to all bond conditions and supersedes other provisions in Colorado law regarding conditions of release.

Valid registry identification card, as defined in Section 25-1.5-106(2)(e), establishes a person's status as a medical marijuana patient.

The act took effect on August 9, 2017, unless a referendum petition was filed, in which case it required approval by voters at the November 2018 general election.
