SB 17-220 Summary

• Relocates the restorative justice coordinating council from section 19-2-213 to section 13-3-116 within the state judicial department under the office of the state court administrator.

• Requires the council to develop a uniform restorative justice satisfaction evaluation by September 1, 2013, and maintain an annually-updated database of existing restorative justice programs by December 31 of each year.

• Council membership includes 16+ positions including representatives from juvenile justice, youth corrections, district attorneys, victims' organizations, restorative justice practitioners, education, corrections, law enforcement, and the public defender's office.

• Authorizes the council to accept money from trainings, conferences, gifts, grants, and donations to be transmitted to the state treasurer and credited to the restorative justice surcharge fund.

• Removes the council's July 1, 2017 sunset date from the advisory committee repeal list, allowing it to continue operating beyond that deadline.
