SB 17-288 Summary

• Decouples General Assembly member compensation from county court judge salaries, establishing a fixed base salary of $38,000 for members elected in 2018 and thereafter through 2022.

• Members elected at the general election immediately preceding legislative sessions beginning January 2025 and thereafter receive compensation adjusted for inflation using the Denver-Boulder-Greeley Consumer Price Index.

• Director of Research of the Legislative Council adjusts the $38,000 base amount for inflation changes since January 1, 2019, prior to legislative sessions beginning in January 2025 and every two years thereafter.

• Adjusted compensation amounts are posted on the General Assembly website for public access.

• Act takes effect August 9, 2017, unless a referendum petition is filed, in which case it requires voter approval at the November 2018 general election.
