HB18-1014 Summary

• Removes the requirement that Colorado's Department of Education administer state social studies assessments to high school students

• Maintains the requirement to administer social studies assessments once in elementary school and once in middle school, eliminating the former requirement for once in high school

• Removes the exemption that previously prevented administration to twelfth grade students (now moot due to high school assessment removal)

• Keeps the existing provision allowing school districts and charter schools to request voluntary social studies assessments if not included in the representative sample

• Takes effect 90 days after final adjournment of the general assembly (August 8, 2018), unless subject to a referendum petition filed by voters
