The Department of Motor Vehicles shall require initial applicants for a Class A commercial driver's license (authorizing operation of combination vehicles under 49 CFR 383.153) to successfully complete training on recognition, prevention, and reporting of human trafficking when attending a certified commercial driving school.

Training must be provided by commercial driving schools certified for approval by the Private Occupational Schools Division in the Department of Higher Education.

The requirement applies only to initial applicants for Class A commercial driver's licenses, not to renewals or other license classes.

The act takes effect on August 8, 2018 (90 days after final adjournment of the general assembly), unless a referendum petition is filed, in which case voter approval at the November 2018 general election is required.

Governor John W. Hickenlooper approved the bill.
