HB 18-1112 Summary

• Health benefit plans must provide coverage for health care services provided by pharmacists located within health professional shortage areas, as defined under 42 U.S.C. Section 254e.

• Coverage is required only when the conditions specified in the existing subsection (1) of Colorado Revised Statutes 10-16-144 are met.

• Health benefit plan carriers are not required to contract with any pharmacy or pharmacist that refuses to abide by the carrier's established terms and conditions for participation.

• The act takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on August 8, 2018 (or the day following the 90-day period after final adjournment, whichever is later).

• If a referendum petition is filed within 90 days, the act will not take effect unless approved by voters at the November 2018 general election.
