HB18-1124 Summary

• Each member of the Colorado General Assembly may employ one full-time legislative aide beginning January 1, 2019 to assist with legislative duties and functions.

• Legislative aides must perform all work at the Capitol complex facilities, except they may attend constituent or legislative stakeholder meetings with their legislator as part of official duties.

• The legislative council executive committee shall establish annual salaries for legislative aides at a minimum of $28,000 for fiscal year 2018-2019, adjusted annually for inflation based on the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Consumer Price Index.

• The General Assembly must annually appropriate sufficient funds for each member to employ one full-time legislative aide as a separate line item to the legislative department.

• The act takes effect 90 days after the general assembly adjourns, subject to voter approval if a referendum petition is filed.
