HB 18-1130 Summary

• Amends Colorado teacher licensure requirements to allow out-of-state teachers to obtain professional teacher licenses if they have at least three years of continuous, successful, evaluated teaching experience within the previous seven years.

• Modifies the special services license provisions similarly, allowing out-of-state special services providers to obtain professional licenses with three years of relevant experience within the previous seven years.

• Removes the previous requirement that teaching experience be "continuous" without a time limitation, replacing it with a seven-year lookback window.

• Takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on August 8, 2018, contingent upon voter approval if a referendum petition is filed during the ninety-day period following final adjournment of the general assembly.
