School district director candidates remain non-partisan but may now voluntarily declare their political party affiliation on the ballot.

Candidates may declare affiliation up to 67 days before the election date, with the party name or abbreviation printed on the ballot after their name.

To declare affiliation, a candidate must have been registered with that political party in the statewide voter registration system as of the first business day in January of the election year.

Amends Colorado Revised Statutes sections 22-31-107 and 1-4-803 to clarify the permissibility of declaring party affiliation while maintaining the non-partisan nature of school board races.

Takes effect 90 days after final adjournment of the general assembly (August 8, 2018, if adjournment occurs May 9, 2018), subject to referendum petition.
