HB18-1266 Summary

• Expands the Career Development Success pilot program to provide up to $1,000 per student for completing industry credentials, internships, construction pre-apprenticeships/apprenticeships, or advanced placement courses in grades 9-12.

• Requires general assembly to annually appropriate at least $1 million to the program, with participating districts and charter schools receiving distributions based on student completions, capped at 10 percent of total reported industry certificates statewide.

• Changes participation requirement from "strongly encouraged" to "shall" for districts and charter schools to regularly communicate program availability and benefits to all high school students, with goal of increasing participation across all student subgroups.

• Requires Department of Education to provide annual reports to the Joint Education Committee including participation numbers, student demographics, specific certificates earned, graduation and postsecondary enrollment rates.

• Extends the program repeal date from September 1, 2019 to September 1, 2024, providing an additional five years of operation.
