HB 18-1413 Summary

• Creates the Enhance School Safety Incident Response Grant Program administered by the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to fund research, program development, and training for improving school safety incident response.

• Grant recipients must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations with experience in school safety training, law enforcement coordination, and addressing psychological trauma from school safety incidents.

• Grants may fund training programs, best practices development, research, and technology upgrades related to school safety incident response for schools serving preschool through higher education.

• Applicants must submit applications by October 1 each year, and the Division must award grants and distribute funds within 30 days after December 1 each year.

• Appropriates $500,000 from the School Safety Resource Center Cash Fund to the Department of Public Safety for the 2018-19 fiscal year; the program repeals effective June 30, 2021.
