Former Representative Barbara Murray Philips died on June 22, 2017, in Cumming, Georgia, at age 90 after a career in education and public service.

Philips served as a Republican member of the Colorado House of Representatives for District 17 from 1985 to 1990, holding vice-chair positions on the Appropriations Committee (1987-1988) and Transportation & Energy Committee (1989-1990).

Philips sponsored the bill making English the official language of Colorado and chaired the successful 1988 ballot initiative campaign, collecting over 100,000 signatures.

Philips held multiple leadership positions in Republican Party organizations, including Vice-chairwoman of the Colorado Republican Party (1997-1999) and President of the El Paso County Republican Women (2002-2006), and chaired the Republican State Convention in 1996.

The memorial extends sympathy to her surviving sisters, three children, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
