SB 18-051 Summary

• Defines "multi-burst trigger activator" as a device that attaches to a semiautomatic firearm to discharge 2 or more shots in a burst, or a manual/power-driven trigger-activating device that increases rate of fire

• Adds multi-burst trigger activators to the definition of "dangerous weapon" under Colorado law, making possession a class 5 felony for first offense and class 4 felony for subsequent offenses

• Makes selling a multi-burst trigger activator a class 5 felony, with each subsequent violation by the same person elevated to class 4 felony

• Makes purchasing a multi-burst trigger activator a class 5 felony, with each subsequent violation by the same person elevated to class 4 felony

• Takes effect August 8, 2018, unless subject to referendum petition, in which case it requires approval by voters at the November 2018 general election
