Dependents of state employees who die in work-related deaths automatically qualify to continue dental or medical benefits for 12 months from the end of the month in which the death occurred.

Dependents must have been enrolled in dental or medical benefits under the State Employee Group Benefits Act at the time of the employee's work-related death to qualify.

Dependents receive the same coverage they were enrolled in at the time of the employee's death, with no changes to the plan or benefits.

The state agency that employed the deceased employee pays all costs for providing continued dental or medical benefits to the dependents for the 12-month period.

Work-related death is defined as a death that is the proximate result of an injury arising out of and in the course and scope of employment at a state agency.
