SB18-151 Summary

• The Department of Education shall research bullying prevention and education approaches, policies, and practices used by education providers in other states, with results due by July 1, 2019.

• The Department, in consultation with the School Safety Resource Center, shall develop a model bullying prevention and education policy based on the research conducted.

• Research and model policy must be updated every three years and published on the Department's website as guidance for school districts, charter schools, and the charter school institute.

• The bill is titled "Ashawnty's Law" and takes effect at 12:01 a.m. the day after the 90-day period following final adjournment of the general assembly (August 8, 2018, if sine die adjournment occurs May 9, 2018).
